What this means: Bryan Galindo was sentenced to two concurrent 50-year terms, with a 25-year minimum, for the October 2024 Oaks Mall robbery shooting, and owes $2,099,900 in restitution.

Here's what to know:
An Alachua County jury found Galindo guilty of attempted murder and robbery in July 2026; Judge Denise Ferrero imposed the 50-year sentences in September, with a 25-year minimum mandatory.
Two co-defendants, Bryan Galindo Vega and Yasin Kamel Al'olabi, were juveniles charged as adults and each received 15 years in prison plus 10 years of probation after pleas about a year ago.
All three were ordered to pay $2,099,900 in restitution to the victim; the State Attorney's Office announcement was reported Oct. 5.

The 3-judge panel reversed Judge George Wright's ruling and ordered judgment for the Authority; the city's cross-appeal over ballot language was dismissed as moot.
The Authority was created by the Legislature in 2023; voters backed taking control back with 72.56% in 2024 and 75.18% in 2025, and the ruling closes the charter-amendment route.

Gainesville wins $25.1 million federal grant to rebuild Lake Terrace and Pine Meadows

Here's what to know:
Mayor Harvey Ward and GHA CEO Pamela Davis received the award in a Sept. 3 letter, and the city announced it Oct. 6.
Gainesville is one of 4 communities nationwide chosen; GHA says it will meet with current residents and give relocation help before construction begins.
