State ethics panel finds probable cause that Superintendent Patton filed inaccurate disclosure forms
What this means: The Florida Commission on Ethics found probable cause on Oct. 23 against Alachua County's school superintendent; a hearing or settlement must still come before any final ruling or penalty.
The Florida Commission on Ethics found probable cause on Oct. 23 that Superintendent Kamela Patton filed inaccurate 2023 and 2024 financial disclosure forms.
Here's what to know:
The inaccuracies involve Patton Solutions, LLC; the Commission's advocate cited capital account balances of $35,157 in 2023 and $58,205 in 2024 against a $10,000 reporting threshold.
Patton filed her 2023 form July 1, 2025, after a Dec. 18, 2024 deadline; she strongly disagrees and asks for 30 days to amend her 2024 form.
This is not a final ruling: the case goes to a Division of Administrative Hearings judge or a settlement, then back to the Commission; no hearing date is reported.

Extreme Water Shortage stays in force: one watering day a week, even after clocks fall back
What this means: Alachua County keeps landscape irrigation to one day a week as an Extreme Water Shortage declaration continues, so check your timer when the clocks change on Sunday, Nov. 1.
